APPLY FOR HOUSING
In preparation for the upcoming UCLA Master of Applied Economics program, we would like to offer information regarding housing. There are several housing options available for UCLA MAE students, you could:
1) Apply for university apartments
2) Choose from UCLA community housing to find off-campus apartments
Apply For University Graduate Housing
The assignment of university housing is lottery-based. In order to secure a higher chance of successful assignment for housing, please finish the following lottery process by May. Exact deadline TBD.
Before applying for UCLA graduate housing, you must first create your personal student account at my.ucla.edu. Those who have followed the “SIR” link can skip to the bottom.
Go to my.ucla. Then follow these steps:
- Read and click the box at the bottom of the page to agree with “the Acceptable Use Policy” and hit “NEXT”
- You will see “Create UCLA Logon/Password” and be asked to identify yourself to the system by selecting all options that apply
- Many will select “New UCLA Student (including admitted applicants)”
- Enter Name, Date of Birth and UCLA ID Number or “UID”
- Please note Help Desk telephone number is 310-267- HELP (4357) or email at accounts@ucla.edu
Please keep a record of your user name and password as you will be using this frequently to access many student services.
After creating your “my.ucla” account, you will be able to apply for UCLA’s housing lottery by following these 3 steps:
1) Go to UCLA Housing page
2) Click on “My Housing” icon
3) Click on “Access Housing Application & Offers” where you apply for housing and manage your housing preferences and offer
4) After logging in, you will land on the application page. Go to the top of the page, then click on the “Application” tab

Apply For Community Housing (Off-Campus Housing)
The Community Housing Office (CHO) provides non-university owned rental listings and rental resources to the entire UCLA community. Full-time UCLA students may search listings for free. In addition, the office also maintains additional resources to assist those searching for housing in the Los Angeles area.
In order to use the CHO service, you will need your my.ucla account registered. Please follow the steps listed above if you do not have one already.
After creating your my.ucla account, you may use the Community Housing online listings database for free by logging in with your UCLA Logon and password. Please select the link below to proceed.

Get the right laptop for school
We recommend that you wait until early summer for the latest laptop models. Technology changes quickly and you may end up purchasing an older model if you buy it now.
Hardware Requirements
These are the minimum and recommended hardware requirements for your laptop. The MINIMUM requirements are what we feel will be the bare minimum configuration for your laptop. The RECOMMENDED requirements are what we feel will be the optimal configuration for your laptop.

* 5th Generation Intel Core processors are more robust than 3rd Generation processors, and i7 processors are more robust than i5 processors. This is strictly a price to performance decision – whatever you prefer. We do not recommend Intel Core-M processors.
Mac Computers
Mac laptops are acceptable to use as primary computers for study at MAE, although educational software for courses is only available for Windows environments. Windows is required on Mac laptops. Installation of the Windows OS on all Apple laptops is required prior to beginning laptop configuration.
Mac users have the option of installing a Windows operating system on their computer either using Boot Camp (native to Mac OS) or via a virtual machine (a third party solution, such as Parallels or VMware Fusion). If you plan to use a virtual machine, please be advised to have a minimum of 8 GB of RAM.

Tablets
Tablets (Apple’s iPad, Android tablets, Windows RT tablets, etc.) do not meet the minimum hardware requirements for the MAE program. While these devices are useful secondary devices, they cannot replace your primary laptop, and do not meet the laptop requirement. Tablets are suitable for consuming content (checking e-mail, surfing the Internet, watching a video) but they are not compatible with educational software necessary to produce the coursework in your program.
